Why Some Media Links Cannot Be Downloaded

Not every link can be downloaded, and the reasons fall into a small set of categories. This guide maps the common failures to what they actually mean.

The failure categories across all platforms, what each error tells you, and when retrying actually helps.

Failure category 1: the content is not public

Private accounts, friends-only posts, private groups, and paywalled content cannot be downloaded. This is the most common cause and the only one with no fix.

Failure category 2: the platform requires a login

Some platforms serve login walls even for public content. The downloader does not bypass them — it reports the login requirement and you can retry later.

Failure category 3: the content is gone

Removed posts, expired Stories, and deleted videos return not-found errors. A link that still renders in your browser can be stale — the downloader asks the platform directly.

Failure category 4: region or age restrictions

Region-locked videos fail from the processing region, and age-restricted content is rejected outright.

Failure category 5: service limits

Rate limits, queue capacity, media size and duration limits, and storage limits are real and enforced. The error message names the limit so you know it is temporary (rate/queue) or content-specific (size).
